I’m artist Ben Hoffman; photographer, cinematographer and musician. I’ve lived so much life; made so many different kinds of work, but I’ve always returned to my first love, photography.

I’ve waited a very long time for the right moment to show the work which is the purest reflection of me as an artist. Finally, I find myself in an avalanche of inspiration and awareness. Now is the right time.

I treat photography like my life depends on it because, in a sense, it does.

I have one chance to live an artful life. One chance to be uncommon. One chance to embrace success, failure, heartache, rapture. Each time I lift the camera to my eye I’m choosing to feel and see everything. A tidal wave of LineShapeColorMovementStillnessDesireHope. I could say that I’m doing my best to take great photos but I’d be lying. I want nothing more than perfection, or at least as close as I can get to it.  I want the adrenaline rush when I know that I’ve taken THE photo. The moment when it is so good that I get actual goosebumps; my eyes get bigger; my voice rises and I smile so big it lashes the sacred lines of joy deeper into my face. I create photographs like an addict; forever returning to the endless well of creation. That place that exists before the sky. Endless. Timeless. Black until the light finds it. I choose to shine the light where it is so often dark; I choose shadow when the light would be too much. I choose to live an uncommon life. I choose to take this chance.
